Business Ethics in the 6ix
Business Ethics in the 6ix (or BE6) is an annual workshop on business ethics. New and in-progress scholarly work of high quality is presented and discussed. The workshop’s location alternates between in-person at Toronto’s Ted Rogers School of Management and online on Zoom.

Business Ethics in the 6ix started in 2017 with the purpose of furthering dialogue and tighten networks between the many scholars working on business ethics in universities in the greater Toronto area (GTA). Over the years, the annual workshop has grown into an international event. Despite being no longer a mainly local affair, BE6 retains its intimate setting with a small number of papers, read-ahead format, and free registration.
In 2020, the workshop moved online for three years. This had some distinct advantages and disadvantages. To capture the best of both worlds, the workshop now alternates between online and in-person.
In-Person Format:
Half the sessions are held in traditional academic conference format. For the other half, papers are circulated prior to the event; these papers are not presented at the event. Such sessions begin with a 10-minute commentary, followed by a 10-minute response by the speaker, and a 30-minute question period.
Online Format:
All papers are circulated in advance. Sessions start with a very short opportunity for the speaker to summarize the paper, situate it, or draw attention to specific aspects of it. This is followed by a Q&A. Registered participants can get in the queue to ask questions in advance of the workshop – this commits them to sending a brief written version of their question to the author.
Business Ethics in the 6ix is organized and hosted by Hasko von Kriegstein and generously supported by the Ted Rogers Leadership Centre.
